I’ve been in the classroom for 14 years teaching students ages Pre-K to 5th Grade. I have my masters in Early Childhood Education and have always worked with multilingual learners. Inspired by an amazing colleague, I started writing my own standards-based, student-centered, cross-curricular inquiries for the majority of my career. This ever-evolving, responsive way of teaching has garnered exceptional student results AND creates joy for my students (and me!)
I used to plan day-to-day, feeling bound by my curriculum. I was afraid that I would miss something if I adapted my materials and was rightly nervous about investing more time into teaching – I was already falling asleep on my commute home! I planned to stay in teaching just long enough to say I tried it, but longed for a career with more independence and creativity.
